College Vaccinations
Registering for college can be a stressful process… That’s why The Shot Nurse is proud to offer convenient walk-in services for college students who need vaccinations, immunity titers, or lab testing along with the documentation required by their school. Most vaccines are covered under many insurance plans, and our team can help make sure your records are complete before move-in day.
What Vaccinations Does My Student Need?
Many colleges and universities require incoming students to provide proof of immunization before attending classes, moving into campus housing, or participating in student activities. Requirements vary by school, but the following vaccines are commonly required or strongly recommended for college students:
- Meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) (Required by most colleges and universities)
- Meningococcal B (MenB) (Required by most colleges and universities)
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) (Required by most colleges and universities)
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap)
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
- Hepatitis B
- Seasonal flu vaccine
The CDC specifically recommends MenACWY vaccination for first-year college students living in residential housing if they were not vaccinated on or after age 16.
Students attending post-high school educational institutions who do not have proof of immunity may also need two doses of the MMR vaccine.
University Documentation & Immunization Forms
If you are unable to locate your childhood vaccine records, many schools accept a vaccination titer, which is a blood test used to confirm immunity to certain diseases. The Shot Nurse can perform immunity titers and provide the necessary documentation for your college or university. If test results show low or incomplete immunity, a booster vaccine may be recommended to help meet school requirements.
Back-to-school vaccinations are also available for school entry ages 5 and up.
Why College Students Should Stay Up to Date on Vaccines
College campuses can increase exposure to contagious illnesses because students often live, study, and socialize in close quarters. Vaccinations help protect both individual students and the campus community from preventable diseases such as meningitis, measles, whooping cough, and influenza.
Staying current on recommended vaccines can also help students avoid registration delays, housing holds, or missed classes caused by incomplete immunization records.
